A close relative recently turned up to me for advise about intra articular steroid injection that an orthopedician advised her for her progressive B/L osteoarthritis. She currently in her 70s k/c/o controlled DM . As i didn’t know much about it, i told her ill find out and let her know. Wanted advise regarding safety profile and prognosis, if anyone knows about.

thanks in advance.

Although she was advised total arthroplasty, she has been hesitant about it

Intra articular corticosteroid for OA knee is safe and effective in short term. It has been strongly recommended in 2019 ACR guide line. However it’s not a longterm solution. It will buy some time so that a structured rehabilitation protocol can be started.

What are the drugs she is on?

metformin and analgesics only as of now

Sugars under control ?

Steroids cause hyperglycemia thou ??? …

But still pretty helpful …

Intra articular … They act good …

N r a nice Way over Knee replacements
