An 18 year old presented to the Eye clinic with complaints of redness

An 18 year old presented to the Eye clinic with complaints of redness, marked Itching, discomfort and discharge from eyes (right and left) since 4 days for which he had been taking home remedies. He complained of waking up with glued eyelids.
There were no complaints of photophobia.
On Examination, the discharge seemed more purulent than mucoid, eyelids showed mild edema.
Slit lamp lamp Examination turned up insignificant (no follicles/papillae etc), visual acuity was preserved and pupillary reaction was normal.
Pre auricular lymph nodes were not palpable.
There were no signs of fever or flu like illness.
A conjunctival swab was sent for culture and sensitivity.

On Grams stain: Gram positive lanceolate diplococci among many pus cells were observed.

On Blood agar @5-10% CO2 and @37°C overnight incubation: dome shaped glistening colonies with Alpha hemolysis.

The microbe was catalase negative, oxidase negative, bile soluble.

The patient was started on topical Levofloxacin antibiotic therapy.
