Pros -

  1. wide spectrum of choices you get after finishing MD/DNB , you can go for DM , idccm or other fellowships for cardiac ax , Neuro ax , transplant ax , pediatric Ax, upcoming obstetric ax , interventional pain specialist , critical care medicine
  2. high demand and evergreen subject
  3. easy for early settlement.
  4. you will get to do procedures , you will be heading trauma centres , you will be master in resuscitation and the feeling you get when you are called to save the patient when every other measures have failed.
  5. fairly good work life balance , you don’t have any ward to watch over or follow up , you are free when OT is done and all the patients are stable whereas the surgeons will be doing the regular follow up
  6. lots of gadgets to work with like USG guided blocks , central line , TEE , latest Anaesthesia workstations , invasive monitoring devices to name a few

CONS -.

  1. less recognition among public , but you are highly respected among medical fraternity and the corporates know they can’t function without Anaesthesiologist
  2. salary and earning has a ceiling effect although if you are doing freelancing then sky is the limit
  3. some of the places , surgeons and anaesthesia clashes still goes on but it has changed a lot nowadays and things will get only better.
