Asteatotic Eczema (Eczema Craquelé): one Presentation, many Causes
-Eczema craquelé is a common presentation in the elderly, especially in low humidity environments, such as heated homes in the winter.
It presents as plaques often localized on the lower legs with a “crazy-paving pattern”
Diamond-shaped plates of skin are separated from each other by red bands forming a network. The red bands when looked with a dermatoscope easily reveal blood vessels.
The “drying” of the skin can be explained by an impaired startum corneum, and it is suggested that the lesions in this case report were due to distension. Indeed in nephrotic syndrome, albumin retention induces secondary water retntion leading to edema.
