Band Keratopathy!

Band Keratopathy!
Band Keratopathy is a corneal degeneration that manifests as a band-shaped, horizontal opacity that grows from the peripheral cornea towards the central cornea. It is most often composed of fine dust-like calcium deposits in the sub-epithelium, Bowman’s layer and the anterior stroma.
Initial deposits are gray but as the condition progresses, the band becomes chalky-white with dots in areas of corneal nerves. Band keratopathy can be associated with chronic intraocular diseases like Chronic uveitis, systemic illnesses leading to Hypercalcemia (e.g. Hyperparathyroidism, vitamin D toxicity, Multiple myeloma, Paget’s Disease of the bone), or be idiopathic.
