Whenever you see HBsAg positive = This patient has current HBV infection , either acute or chronic .

Whenever you see HBsAb positive = This patient has been exposed to the virus ( surface and core ) and his immune system could eliminate ( immune , Cleared infection= HBcAb) or this patient was exposed to a protein from the virus surface by Vaccine ( Vaccinted , no core Ab ).

HBsAg and HBsAb can not be in the same place .Once you see one of them positive , the other must not be there .
