Heel bone osteoporosis may add up to a greater risk of developing heart failure.

An association between lower bone mineral density in the heel (Heel Pain) and incident heart failure, according to Roman Pfister, MD, of the Heart Center of the University of Cologne in Germany, and colleagues reported online in JACC: Heart Failure.

Calcaneal DXA scanning or quantitative CT may provide more definitive evidence of the purported relationship.

Heart failure and osteoporosis share certain risk factors and that patients with heart failure have an elevated risk of future osteoporosis and fractures.
