Hi all, This is my first USMLE match interaction, so I have no Idea what to expect. This is my profile.

Step 1: 249

Step 2: 264

Step 2 CS : passed. (1st attempt)

Grad Year : 2013.

Step 3 : TBD

I was essentially my great uncle’s carer for the past 5 and a bit years and he passed away last year. I was encouraged by my uncle in the US to apply for residency (not a med professional).

I literally have no work experience except for a stint at Doctors without borders for 6 months in 2013 (Sudan).

I intend on either majoring in palliative care or Anesthesiology.

I have some Personal statement and a couple of recommendations from my college and DWB days.

  1. Is there any point in even applying for residency this year?

  2. Should I focus on working for a few months and then apply next cycle?

  3. Other suggestions are welcome thanks!

EDIT : Applied to 60 Programs last year (Anesthesiology and Internal Medicine) and got zero Interview calls. Had no Idea about any of the requirements, Just a blind apply.
