Guys I am posting this experience here not to get sympathy but to make a point . We as IMG are largely on the receiving end of racism and we may keep quite because we don’t want to cause trouble or get into trouble. Please know this : YOU SHOULD NOT TOLERATE RACISM for any reason.

I told a patent this morning and I have no regrets for doing this .
Let me put it in context . I was in the last couple of hours of a 12 hour shift when a patient popped up on my screen . Blisters on feet . Nothing unusual about this . Afterall Lockdown is “over “ and any case can walk through the door. The HCA informed me that he refused Obs . No issues . Let’s see what the matter is .
I approached the patient and introduced myself . I told him I was the doctor that would be seeing him .
Patient : What ?!
I repeated myself .
Me : Please can you come with me and tell me what the matter is ?
Patient retorted : Isn’t this written in the notes?!
Me : It is but I would like more information if that’s ok .
He begins to swear and drop F bombs like is a lottery . I caution him twice about this .
Next he shouts at me : I want to see a F***ing white Doctor! to which I replied firmly : “Get out of here now ! No one is going to see you and I got security to escort him out . I filled an incidence form .
I am used to micro aggressions but this was my first experience of overt racism as a Doctor in the U.K.
