the annual fees which has to be paid at the beginning of the academic year is 4500 us dollars… and abt the stipend, snehay pls put in the necessary info pls…

hey drche… since u r giving d details of application at IOM … u must have seen that this year’s session exam is already over… so is it of any use at this moment… pls give your views… or is this for future reference…???

ya, u r right this academic year has already taken off! the test was on may 21st!! i posted the above details for those who would like to join in by next year or in the coming years. i thought of posting this coz many ppl are not aware of the oppurtunities avaliable in nepal and other saarc countries. hope this helps…any queries are welcome.

i’m sorry abt the date of the test, it was on 14th may 06…and i heard a few more seats are vacant there…i think one year experience is required for joining. have to get this confirmed coz nepalis require an year of work to join any pg course there.

hey dr che…this institute is no doubt the oldest and one of the best(if its the one in teaching hospital)…but i dont think it’s recognised…(no offence) am not disheartning u but just trying to state a fact.i don’t think so coz…if the p.g programme offered by the koirala institute in dharan(which works in collaboration with aiims) is not recognised by mci then how can this institue be…maybe it is now but one of my seniors passed out from that college last year (opthal) and she told me it’s still not recognised…
do keep us posted though…all the best.

i know it isnt recognized by the mci…thanx for ur views and appreciate it.
and its the one with the teaching hospital in ktm…

for ur info,no pg courses at IOM are mci recognised but recently few departments at BPKIHS dharan have been recognised by mci and others are soon going to follow.

I have passed MS (Gen.Surgery) from IOM. kathmandu nepal in 2003. The degree is still not recognised in india. MCI has inspected 6 depts. in May 2006, but report still pending with them, looks as MCI in no mood to recognise them. wants money ?
Pl. look befre you take addmission to IOM for PG

So is the college still not recognised by MCI? Heard most of the depts are good there. Which are the depts that were inspected by the MCI? Can you practise in India as a surgeon? How is Med there?

Did any one join from india at IOM this year?

Snehay, keep us posted…

Dr_ Firaz
Thanks for ur response. Depts. inspected by MCI are Surgery, Gynae,Anaes, Med, ophtho, ENT. Mci has costituted a comittie for recognition purpose due to pressure of Delhi high court. It is to any ones best guess that how much time MCI shall take to dispose off the matter. In abscence of recognition no one can practice as a PG doctor in india.

Thanks a lot for your response. I hope the MCI do recognise IOM soon enough. Its sad to think of it, not being able to practise the speciality you spent 3 years for. I was just curious to know of options knowing how grave the situation in India is. How about the screening exam that was supposed to be instituted for foreign PG’s???

Since you have done your PG from IOM, you are the best person to recommend the idea of PG from there. What about the attitude of Profs there to Indian students? Was there any discrimination?

Thanks for your reply , Regarding forgien p. g.screening exam no new devalopment as yet. As usual MCI is sitting on it,shall need another kick in the ass by supreme court .As far as attitude of Profs at IOM, it is worst at surgical fields, local resident will make sure that life is a hell for u. I do not recommend doing pg at all from there.

Do we need MCI registration for practising our speciality if we do MD in medical specialities. I mean, surgical specialities there’s always the risk of litigations and the incidences of those are more, what about medical specialities? You know how bad the situation in India is. Its only getting from bad to worse.

Lets hope the MCI institutes the screening exam at the earliest. Else the pursuit for PG will only remain a dream.

There was a report in Hindu newspaper dtd.21\01\2008 about the govt planning to recognise PG qualifications of 5 countries, namely US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, unilaterally. How long the process might take is a big questions mark. Anyway Nepal is not included in the list and so as of now its not recognised.

Till date mci has not recommended for recognition of any of the pg courses offered by tribhuvan university through iom kathmandu. A team from iom kathmandu met health secretery, india in delhi in sep. 2007. Health secretery advised mci chairman to visit iom ,kathmandu and sort out the recogniton issue. but mci chairman never bothered to visit kathmandu. This clearly indicates that mci care a shit about ministry of health and has it’s own ways of dealing recognition matters, i.e. by monetery ways only.Let’s hope health minister’s initiative for recognising pg degrees of 5 countries may extend to nepal also. In the light of above facts it highly in- advisable to take addmission at iom pg courses. Iom people are also not very keen on recognition issue.

Checkout the MCI website (www.mciindia.org), MS ENT of Tribhuvan University is now recognised by the MCI.
