yes, but it is very rare. The immunity is due to an inherited gene mutation called Delta 32. Both parents must carry this gene mutation to pass natural immunity on to their child. Delta 32 keeps a protein, CCR5, from rising to the surface of the immune systems T cells. When CCR5 is suppressed, HIV cannot infect the cell. About 1% of Caucasians have this gene mutation and immunity to HIV. It is even more rare in Native American, Asian, and African populations.
