More tips for application season:
-It is still not too late to apply, if you haven’t got the chance to apply earlier due to financial issues, or missed papers…apply now!
-Application work continues after you submit your ERAS. Contact ppl, friends, family regarding promoting for you to a residency spot.
-Stay active, send emails to coordinators &/ or directors, they do receive 5000 applications, how to read all of them? They do sense that you are the most interested one when you contact them, but do not be annoying and do it everyday. Be professional in your emails, do not beg, pick any chance to contact them. For example: recent Step result, recent research published and so on.
-Try your best not to stress out. I know its annoying and tough. Give your self certain hours ina day to think/work for ERAS application. The rest of the day do anything to release stress, try to put your mind in relaxation mode at least for an hour everyday.
-Prepare for interviews from now, you will be surprised how many ppl have excellent scores, perfect resume and recent year of graduation, but…they lack personality in interview. So they can not leave a good impression afterwards. Work on your self, train yourself not be shy, tensed or stressed, you will get interviewed by at least 2 to 3 faculty members every where you go. Leave a good impression so they can remember and pick you.
-Buy formal cloth for Interview, formal suites. Also you can carry a small portfoilo if you like, to keep your copies of papers you have and would like to show, it looks professional and will leave a great impression.
-Do not compare yourself to other candidates, if your colleague received an interview from a place that you applied to as well and you havn’t, it does not mean your resume is bad or you are not qualified, it simply means that you are not a fit for that program only , and definetly there would be a program that will call you.
-Number of interviews recieved does not mean its a confirmed match, remember it takes only one IV to match.
-Do not get suppressed or demotivated by rejections. It will and must happen! No matter how great your profile is, you must receive a rejection from some where. First rejection is hard, with time you will start accepting it specially when you start recieving interviews.
-Read about the program before your interview day, see what they focus on, what they offer, prepare questions to ask the faculties to show them that you are interested. Never go to an IV in a program without knowing if they offer research or not for example. You must know, and this question must be asked: Why our program?.
-Always be prepared to answer this question: Tell me about your self. A must, most definetly 100% asked every wherd you go. Talk about your self, wherd are you from, why you came to the USA, why you picked medicine, what are your future goals and what you like to do for fun! The last one is a must , must say your interests, americans do not like candidates that are too academics and have no interests and fun things to do in spare times. Also do not brag about yourself, your achievements, or about your number 1 top university that you went to.
-Keep searching and applying even after you submit your list. Some times you miss applying to programs that fit your criteria.

Wish you the best
