PSEUDO-GAUCHER CELL (Ceroid Histiocytes):
OSMIUM TETROXIDE / Oil red O / Sudan black B :
These are all lipid stain and they will identify phospholipid membrane of damaged cell.
This is feature of proliferative leukemic cells which are dying and their membrane is phagocytosed by histiocytes (a/k/a SEA BLUE HISTIOCYTES) in bone marrow .
These are a/k/a Pseudo-Gaucher cell or Ceroid Histiocytes .
“Gaucher cell” are different from these ccells as Gaucher cell will be positive for:
PAS ( for containing glycogen) and PERL’s PRUSSIAN BLUE ( for containing iron stain).
