ROSETTES IN HISTOPATHOLOGY

  1. Homer-Wright rosette
    Neuroblastoma
    Medulloblastoma
    PNET’s

  2. Flexner-Wintersteiner rosette
    Retinoblastoma
Consists of tumor cells surrounding a central lumen that contains cytoplasmic extensions from tumor cells.
Electron microscopy: Features of primitive photoreceptor.

  3. True ependymal rosettes
    Ependymoma
Consists of tumor cells surrounding an empty lumen
Present in small percentage of well-differentiated ependymoma

  4. Perivascular pseudorosette
    Ependymoma
    Medulloblastoma
    PNET
    Central neurocytomas
    Glioblastomas
Consists of tumor cells collected around a blood vessel.
Called pseudorosette since the central structure is not part of the tumor.
