Shed some light on ms general surgery

Shed some light on ms general surgery. Why do people say it’s tough to settle in surgery. Why do they say that? I’m really interested in surgery but I’m curious

It’s tough to settle in any clinical branch there is usually a lag phase of 4-5 yrs but surgery is still a demanding branch

How should I progress after I finish the pg? People talk about SR ship, fellowship, Titanic ship,SUPER specialisation. Are they all really necessary?

I’m giving a thought about finishing my pg and going to my hometown, work at a chc, hone my skills, then do something like I mentioned above. Is it practical?

Simple MS is fine if you want to settle in suburbs…learn few lap surgeries and you would do fine…
Settlement period is late because you have to learn skills…
In cities competition is cut throat…so superspecialisation comes into picture

Thing is if you want early rewards and and want to settle in a brief period of time,or you have early financial obligations…life after MS general surgery might be initially a bit difficult

I still don’t understand. Surgeons also get salaries along side other branches, right?

The term settle is variable for many…some mean earning enough to sustain ones needs and hobbies, for some it’s getting married and starting a family and taking up responsibilities of your parents maintaining your lifestyle side by side…its you who decide

But vacancies should be there to join. So many surgeons coming out every year. my senior said 7 surgical oncologist staying in home as there r no vacancies due high no.of surgeons coming out

If u r interested, ur talent and skills will help. A physician can keep his clinic within his house in a room, but a surgeon can’t. So it takes time for surgeons

Yes they do get…but dont expect to get initial salaries like that of radiologists or pediatricians…when you pass out you will start as S3 or even S4 with senior surgeons…you gradually have to make your way up…so does your income/salary…learning skill takes time…there are 100 surgeons waiting to do a lap chole in your city…what matters is can you do it without complications, and guarantee a post operative uneventful recovery??a lot of it is luck and hard work…

Surgeon no 3 and 4…surgeon 1 is the principal surgeon in any case, and S2 is the assistant surgeon…S3 and S4 are secondary assistants to help out the S1 and S2

Now some of my surgery pgs suggest me not to take surgery :joy:. But if u r really interested u can take it. If u think practically abt ur settlement, money then it’s ur wish

If you are happy with moderate income…if you like the subject…go ahead with it…once you have the required skills under your grasp, sky is the limit …remember the highest paid doctors in India and even in the world are Surgeons only…you just have to make yourself worthly…!!I suppose you are from South…go and read the life of Dr C. Panalivelu…read it for inspiration

I got 5.4k rank. I’m interested in surgical branches. Ortho seems a far way dream. Optha ENT.nope. My hands aren’t that refined.

If all i am interested is in money then i shouldn’t be opting for surgery?
