Target usmle step 2 cs study plan

3 ‘Must Know’ Phases to USMLE Step 2 CS Preparation 1. Choosing the Right Material 2. Knowing the Right Methods (Proven) 3. Practicing the Right Way

  1. Choosing the Right Material You can pick (a) a book – self- study (b) live lecture course or © online video lecture
Option a - Some students pick the most popular book First Aid but nobody teaches them how to use the book effectively to pass the CS exam. We have seen students who read the book more than 20 times but haven’t figured out a way to integrate the content to pass the exam in multiple attempts.
Option b- Other students attend a live course where they are taught how to go about CS and the bulky CS course material is dropped onto their lap to cover by themselves during/after the course. Common sense will tell us that one cannot get CS ready in a 3 or 4 or even a 5 day course let alone being ready to take a mock exam on the last day! It is a costly option as well (course fee other than flight, stay, food etc).
Option c - You can get the coaching by online CS experts with lectures and videos demos from the comfort of your home! Following along the CS handbook that go alongside the short lecture videos seems to be an effective option for this particular exam in our 10 year experience with CS candidates. Once you prepare effectively (typically takes 2-4 weeks for an average student) you can take a live mock anywhere you choose.
  2. Knowing the Right Methods (Proven one!) 2018 ECFMG fact card mentions the pass rate has dropped from 82% to 75% i.e one in four students fail this expensive exam. So take no chances!

Know the enemy before you go for the battle. Analyze the nuances of the exam – What are the 3 components (ICE, CIS, SEP), what should I do in the 15 min case presentation & 10 min Patient note typing to pass each of the 3 components, who grades them etc. If you are relying on your peers taking the exam alongside you for their expert opinion you may be making a costly mistake. Get assessments from those who have taken the exam (again a one time experience)/ your professors (who may personally know each student performance) or CS experts who have personally seen thousands of students before you who trained with them personally and passed in flying colors. 3.Practicing the Right Way CS is a very different exam than step 1 & CK. There is human interaction with a Standardized Patients (SPs), distraction from fellow colleagues taking the exam alongside you (eg. typing loudly or exiting the room faster than you), functioning under pressure both inside (15 mins) and outside the room (10 mins). Many students fail the ICE component (the highest failed among the 3) and it is commonly thought that it is because of a bad patient note. Partially true but Data Gathering inside the room matters for a ICE pass too. The focused questions you ask or forgot to ask matters! How you interpret the answers your get from the SP? If you don’t have the right focused data from History & PE, it is obvious you won’t have a good patient note that passes ICE.
Considering all these 3 crucial elements to pass Step 2 CS, Target USMLE has put together a CS STUDY PLAN that has worked so efficiently for the last 10 years for thousands of students (including the ones who come after a 2nd/3rd attempts after expensive courses in their previous trials) that we have a 97% pass rate overall! CCC offers all 3 crucial elements in one course combined.
