The clinical scenario is suggestive of Tuberculosis.

TUBERCULOSIS

  1. Antigenic property:
    Group specificity is due to M. tuberculosis
    Type specificity is due to protein antigen

  2. Pathogenecity:
    M tuberculosis is replicated within the macrophages by blocking fusion of phagosome and lysosome.
    Due to escape of killing my macrophages and induction of type IV hypersensitivity
    Risk of acquiring infection is determined by exogenous factors.
    Risk of developing disease depends on endogenous factors

  3. Factors contributing to pathogenesis:
    Cord factor
    Lipoarabinomannan
    Complement system
    M. tuberculosis heat shock proteins
