The following monitors during general anesthesia

To help encourage universal quality and safety practices, the ASA has adopted and mandates the use of all the following monitors during general anesthesia, except

  1. An oxygen analyzer

  2. Capnography

  3. Continuous visual display of an ECG

4) A peripheral nerve stimulator

explanation

ASA standards mandate the use of pulse oximetry, capnography, an oxygen analyzer in the breathing system, disconnect alarms, a visual display of an ECG, systemic blood pressure and heart rate monitoring, and temperature monitoring (when clinically indicated) for all cases. The use of a peripheral nerve stimulator is not a mandated monitor.
