TODAY TOPIC (HOW TO USE RECALL)
Dear PESCI Candidates,
Many have asked to send them recall, and I did. However, I would like to advise you how to use recall.
Using recall may be very risky and failing if you dont know how to use. Recall is THE CANDIDATE VIEW not the real case. Don’t let recall leads you to early and/or wrong diagnosis.
My advice is, when doing recall NEVER depend on the diagnosis but symptoms as diagnosis is interpretation of candidate and may be wrong, for example one candidates last week has a case with racgp of ulcer, she said I had a case of varicose ulcer but it was psoriasis.
Another example with ACRRM, two candidates with same panel and get the same case: each gave different diagnosis while one of them call ER who think it is a third diagnosis
Another important and risky issue when using recall is that it leads to reach premature diagnosis (I saw this point in many pesci reports) or when candidates try to pretend that he does not study from recall and reach TOO LATE to the diagnosis
Furthermore, panel know that candidates study recall, so they change it frequently and very easy to pick up who study recall
So just study recall as DD, for example: right iliac pain then may be PID, ectopic, appendicitis, UTI, hernia, mesenteric lymphadenitis…ect , then you by your skills in taking history skills and and conducting proper diagnosis and requesting the right investigation, you will pick up the right diagnosis and uncover the hidden trap will put your feet in the right way.
My advise: know the DD from symptoms then study the disease from JM or guidelines for your PESCI and your practical life
