Type 1 diabetes or Insulin dependent DM

  1. Type 1 diabetes or Insulin dependent DM (juevenile type DM) it due to insulin deficiencies.

  2. Type 2 diabetes or Non insulin dependent DM (adult type DM) it due to insulin resistance.

  3. Gestational Type DM: Diabetes in pregnant women developed during the course of pregnancy.

This three are the main types of DM and the most common types but there are other types of DM which are less common than this three types.

  1. Double type DM: Those with type 1 diabetes (Insulin deficiency) developed insulin resistance.

  2. LADA (Latent autoimmune diabetes of adulthood): Type 1 diabetes (which is autoimmune) in adult patients.

  3. MODY (Maturity Onset Diabetes of young): In this type there’s mutation in the genes that responsible for insulin production so there may be insulin resistance or deficiency.

  4. Brain insulin resistance: This type is common in patients with Alzheimer’s disease and also in patients with type 2 DM who have vascular complications.

  5. Streoid induced Diabetes.

  6. Brittle DM: In this types patients have fluctuating blood glucose level some times they are Hyperglycemia and other times Hypoglycemia. This type is more common in young patients with sress, anxiety and during puberty. Also in Patients who have gastroparesis that affect carbohydrate metabolism.

  7. Neonatal DM: Diabetes in first 6 months after birth which is temporary and will disappear after 6 months but if it becomes permanent it Called Juvenile or type 1 DM.

  8. Secondary DM: Diabetes secondary to pancreatitis, carcinoma of pancreas, Cystic fibrosis, B.blockers, hydrochlorothiazide use.
