Where and how to make baby sleep?

Once home, the young mom has to choose where her baby will sleep.
Which room and bed is most suitable for the baby and how to make sure he’s safe while mom and dad sleep?

DO him in the parent bedroom

Many parents choose to put their child’s bed in their room during the first few weeks: they are faster with their toddler if they start crying, they hear her breathing reassuring, the mom is next door of her baby and can breastfeed her more easily… Other parents make the choice to sleep right away in their own room, leaving the doors open to hear it at any moment

What we know. After 3 months, the baby’s view is getting better, it gradually adapts to his environment, lights, smells. He’s starting to make his nights. It’s often the right time.

… to give him his place as a child: he has acquired new marks that allow him to take the step and reach his room.
Which is true. Sleeping alone means to understand separation from the adult, to dominate your anxiety, to look to the outside, to grow. Between 3 and 6 months comes the right time to leave daddy and mom’s room.

What it’s important to do. Having a space of your own is important, but it’s also a little worrying. Spending time with your baby before bed, sleeping with a nursery or a lullabies can help the baby settle in sleep slowly, peacefully, in his nursery.

A hug, a song, or sweet words in his ear, everything is good for him to soak up with parenting love and feel a sense of security.

CO-SPLEEPING: TO avoid!
Apart from the fact that sleeping with your baby can be dangerous (especially choking risk), it creates a close relationship between him and his parents that may settle over the days, simply because Baby, happy as a king and safe to the extreme between the arms of Mom or Mom, can get a taste of it. Then it’s hard to brag about the merit of quiet nights in his own bed! This does not mean that you should not adopt progress and make exceptions (during nightmares, dental or sickness)

but by definition the parent s’ room is not a meaningless place: it is that of two adults who also need to regain their privacy.

THE BEST SITUATION FOR BABY
Studies have shown that sleeping on the back greatly reduces the risk of sudden infant death. This is why babies should only be laid on their stomach when there is a special medical indication. “When he’s on his stomach, the baby can easily breathe the air he just exhale, which will lead to a hypoventilation”

On the other hand, thermal exchange is reduced by the ventral position: fever or an overheated environment may cause its temperature to rise dangerously. Thus, a simple cold puts a baby who has taken the habit of sleeping on his stomach at double risk of high fever and breathing discomfort. " Sleeping on the side with a baby hold is also not recommended because the little piece, in an uncomfortable position, will want to clear out and may be on the stomach.

After several months, when the child is able to turn around on his stomach, it is not useful to try to put him back on his back.

THE GOOD BABY BEDDING
Up to the age of 2, the child must sleep:

  • in a rigid bed with bars;

  • on a firm mattress but not too hard, well adapted to the size of the bed to prevent the baby from getting stuck between the mattress and the frame;

  • without a pillow, no cloth, duvet, or soft objects like stuffed animals to prevent him from going to bury his head. On the contrary, the child must have a clear face;

  • in a BAG or a sleeping.

“The child should not be trapped in his bed”, says Dr. Bedouret, a pediatrician.

Bed lap can be dangerous, choose one that is not too padded as the baby will tend to nest his little head. Finally, in a study presented in March 2011 on unexpected deaths of infants under the age of 2, the National Health Watch Institute (INVS) advised, in addition to the, flat anti-head pillows sold in trade for children under 4 months of age. They " may be buried in the pillow.
