Why diuretics is more effective in treating isolated systolic hypertension

Why diuretics is more effective in treating isolated systolic hypertension, and why beta blockers are ineffective in treatment of isolated systolic hypertension, even though beta blockers can directly decrease cardiac contractility

Bcs isolated systolic htn is seen more in elderlies due to atherosclerosis and stifness of arteries. This decreases renin and causes hyporeninemic hypertension, which wont respond well to beta blockers which act in htn primarily by decreasing renin.

So here thizides and CCBs are given preference.
