Antimetabolites used in cancer chemotherapy

Compounds with structural similarity to precursors of purines or pyrimidines ( syntheric nucleotides ), or compounds that interfere with purine or pyrimidine synthesis are called antimetabolites.

Methotrexate: inhibits dihyrofolate reductase competitively

Hydroxyurea: inhibits ribonucleotide reductase

6- mercaptopurine: purine analog

6 -thioguanine: Nucleotide analog

6 -Azaguanine: Nucleotide analog
