Chondroblastoma is a benign chondrogenic lytic lesion

Chondroblastoma is a benign chondrogenic lytic lesion that often is found in the epiphysis of young patients. This typically occurs in the talus, but can occur in the calcaneus. Patients may have tenderness over the affected bones.

On plain radiographs, there is often a well-defined epiphyseal lytic lesion. Bone cysts are more common in anterior process of the calcaneus. Histologically, chondroblastomas show focal areas of chondroid matrix with scattered multinucleated giant cells.
