Clone is a Group of Organisms or Cells which are Genetically Identical

Clone is a group of cells, an organism, or a population of organisms arising from a single ancestral cell. All members of a particular clone are genetically identical. Clones of sexually reproducing higher animals have been produced experimentally by new embryo-splitting techniques. This was first accomplished in 1997 when DNA from a sheep’s udder cell was transferred to a fertilized egg cell from which the nucleus had been removed. The egg cell was then implanted in the womb of a surrogate mother, where it developed to produce a normal lamb, named Dolly. New techniques of cell manipulation and tissue culture have enabled the cloning of many animals including cows.
