COVID 19 is a global threat not because of its high transmission potential

COVID 19 is a global threat not because of its high transmission potential but because of the unpredictability of disease progression. The unpredictability begins with the variable incubation period and ends with iffy outcomes, ranging from seamless recovery to irreparable organ damage.

The mystery trigger to organ damage in select individuals is “The Cytokine Storm”, characterized by exaggerated release of Inflammatory markers.

In the absence of definitive treatment for COVID 19, management success lies in predicting the unpredictable, the predictors being inflammatory markers. That way, estimation of inflammatory markers in COVID 19 would be a fundamental measure for reducing mortality.

At
Thoothukudi Government Medical College,Thoothukudi
, we have been estimating all inflammatory markers including IL6 for COVID 19 patients and management is tailor made, based on these values by our clinicians. We take pride in saying that Thoothukudi district has the least Case fatality rate in the state.

To share our experiences during this journey and to get benefited by the experiences of stalwarts of the medical field from other places, we
Government Thoothukudi Medical College
under the auspices of Association of Medical Biochemists of India, have organized an online Continued Medical Education on “Inflammatory markers in the management of COVID19- the predictors of the unpredictable” on November 24th and 25th. Our district collector
Sandeep Nanduri
who has encouraged us from the beginning till date, by sanctioning the analysers and consumables for us, has agreed to be the chief guest. Please do join us in person or online and make this knowledge sharing expedition a grand success.

Details of registration and scientific program are attached.
