“Degenerative spondylolisthesis occurs when one vertebral body is subluxated forward on its inferior vertebrae, most commonly at the L4/5 level. Symptoms typically involve mechanical back pain and neurogenic claudication/leg pain, which may be unilateral or bilateral. Patients may also have L4 or L5 nerve root symptoms. Radiographs and MRI are important for evaluation and pre-operative planning. Decompression and instrumented fusion is indicated after conservative management has failed (physiotherapy, NSAIDs, epidural steroid injections).”
