Cytohormonal study of vaginal epithelium
- para basal and basal layer
- has small round and basophilic cells
- present due to lack of hormonal activity
- seen in childhood until puberty and in Menopause with atrophy
2.intermediate cells layer
-transparent and basophilic cells
-present due to progesterone, androgen & corticosteroid - seen at pregnancy and at an early transition of menopause
- superficial cell layer
-large cells with pyknotic nucleus, acidophillic on staining
-present due to oestrogen
-seen in the reproductive period and pre ovulatory phase
