Enterococci are Group D streptococci and are normal flora of the human intestine, biliary tract.
They are known to cause Hospital Acquired Infections like;
-UTIs,
-Bacteremia
-Endocarditis
-Intra- abdominal infections
-Burn wound infections
-Soft tissue infections
-at times (late onset) neonatal sepsis and meningitis

They are known to be resistant to penicillins, aminoglycosides, sulfonamides, cotrimoxazole, cephalosporins. Vancomycin resistance in HAI isolates has been increasingly reported.

Linezolid, Daptomycin, Streptogramins can be used to combat Vancomycin Resistance
