Expected pco2 is 24-28 here pco2 is 18 means uncompensatory right?

expected pco2 is 24-28 here pco2 is 18 means uncompensatory right?

Had the value been between 24 to 40 it would have meant that it’s trying to compensate by decreasing from 40 to 24 thereby implying partially compensated metabolic acidosis Or uncompensated Met acidosis but it has decreased further from 24 to 18 meaning a seperate pathology causing respiratory alkalosis has started thereby having no relation with compensation

The expected pCO2 should have been 24-28.

Now suppose 3 scenarios -

1️⃣ the actual pCO2 = 31 - then it is uncompensated.

2️⃣ If expected pCO2 - 26, it is compensated.

3️⃣ If it is less than 24, like in this case, it’s overcompensated and there is separate respiratory alkalosis.
