Family medicine is generally extended internship i guess.

But yes, speaking of scope, they’re pretty good, and lies in semi-urban/rural areas.

Jobs are not there as of now, be it private or government. But most family medicine doctors i know practice as general medicine doctor and patient usually don’t care. They want results.

If getting family medicine, i guess you should take it rather than repeating the year. During your residency, study hard and sit for MRCP. Clear it asap. It’ll make you eligible for jobs almost everywhere in private setup with a better pay than even Internal Medicine doctor. Infact, as far as I know, clearing MRCP makes you eligible for DM(please confirm, not very sure).

Settling in middle east after family medicine+mrcp is also an option. Pay is exceptionally well.

So all in all, instead of repeating you won’t regret family medicine in my opinion, if you’re ready to make efforts during and after residency. Mrcp is not easy, but it’ll open so many doors.
