Chief Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Hari Prasad Sapkota, working at Karnali Regional Hospital, Kalagaun Surkhet, 59 / male with COVID-19 infection (Identity Date - Bhadra 29, 2077) due to treatment at the same hospital, Kalagaon, Surkhet. Treatment started by admitted in the Covid special isolation ward of this hospital on Ashoj 1, 2077

There was regular medication for insulin and high blood pressure for diabetes but his diabetes was not under control when admitted to the hospital.

He was initially placed on various types of insulin and antibiotics to control oxygen, blood sugar. Also, due to lack of oxygen saturation maintenance, treatment has been started in CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure). Due to not enough oxygen saturation maintenance in CPAP, BIPAP (Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure) and later HFNC (High Flow Nasal Canula) has been treated. In the middle he was used Remdesivir as well as plasma therapy.

Due to no hopeful improvement in his health during treatment, the Ministry of Health and Population initiative, the Nepali Army has made every possible effort to transmission through helicopter to more facilities, despite the low oxygen saturation, there is no possibility of any accidents during dispatch.

Despite all the efforts, Severe Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) has been developed as a result of pneumonia and soco in his lungs, as oxygen saturation is decreasing, Endotracheal Intubation was put in artificial breathing system (Mechanical Ventilator) today at 6 am. Though Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) was able to do it when the heart stopped at around 12 pm, the Irreversible Cardiac was arrested and declared dead at 3:30 pm.

Dr. Sapkota’s death has caused an irreparable loss to the health sector of the country while the nation has lost a true servant.
