I’m writing about my long, tiring and yet successful Plab 2 journey & hopefully it will help some out there. If you need any guidance regarding plab 2, please comment below

I passed my plab 2 after multiple attempts. To be honest, I didn’t understand the concept of the plab 2 exam comprehensively as well as my lack of proper study practice led to my failures.

Here are some of the tips i would like to share with you from my experience.

  1. There are Structured approaches for different kind of stations, which you need to understand and practice accordingly. You can’t apply one type of approach to all 18 stations in the exam. Focus more on ethical & counsellig station (they make 50-60% of exam) and then on combined examination station add another 20%.

  2. Focus on all 3 domains equally (Data gathering, IPS, Management). Your Data gathering should be precise & exclude emergency & cancer D/Ds only.

  3. You can improve your IPS by listening to Aman Arora’s audio (every word of advise in there is critical) and make your own empathy phrases for different scenarios. Learn how to respond to the verbal & non verbal cues of patient.

  4. Patient centred approach (involving patient in their treatment when u start ur management is very important). Ask them if they are okay to be admitted into hospital or refered to a specialist. Be specific in management. You can’t have time to tell all that’s in the script to the patient. Tell them the most improtant things and of course at FY2 level. You don’t have time explaining surgeries to a patient, which is job of a senior/specialist.

  5. ICE: very important in chronic condtions. How they are coping with their condition. What they are expecting from today’s consultation. What are their thoughts about their condition.

  6. You dont have to ask all Qs of script. Real exam simulators ask you Qs differently sometimes & you have to have a structure to take the consultation/discussion forward and score well.

  7. Practice with right person who understands the concept of each station. Attend online sessions with colleagues. Join whatsapp groups for that

  8. You must have solid knowledge of each medical case. It’s management specially. They want to see you as a safe, uptodate and knowledgeable doctor.

  9. Study each scanario from nhs website or patient.info (use proxy if not accessible)

i’m really grateful to some of great individuals in social platforms who helped me in this journey.

Good luck to all. — with Soheb Rehman.
