Normally, increased need for oxygen or nutrients, tissues can lead to release endogenous vasodilators by the tissues leading to a more controlled vasodilation. Distributive shock characteristically demonstrates WIDESPREAD peripheral vasodilation caused by loss of vascular smooth muscle reactivity. The vasodilation causes hypotension with resulting tissue hypoperfusion.
