Is it worth joining AFMS? Seniors kindly guide me

Is it worth joining AFMS??? Seniors kindly guide me…

Yes trust me you will doctor in uniform… If you have that passion you would love it…

My batch mate is from AFMC I can buy almost everything he has but not his uniform… He has earned both the uniform of a soldier and uniform of doctor…

handsome salary, respect, uniform, branded liqour everything you will get but this service is for army mindset persons becoz it’ll really drain you mentaly and sometimes physicaly.

SSC is for only 5 years… if you are <30… you are eligible to apply for permanent job there…,but in turn its uncertain… but those who are passed out from AFMC are eligible for permanency… work environment is bit mentally stressfull… and once selected… the training is physically draining even for doctors… this is based on my conversation with a doctor working there… buy payment is sufficient.

Understand AMC is different and AFMC Is different…

In AMC your life all together changes and it is no regular doctor life you have imagined earlier as a civilian…yes that’s a dream lifestyle for few but others find it difficult to adjust after the initial enthusiasm has decreased…and mind iam not talking about the early morning routine or the discipline…it’s about the options you are left to do after you choose it and accepting the pros and cons of it…

Pros- uniform and the respect along with it

Really good lifestyle for your family if they are ok with staying and moving around your posting areas

Stable and secure fixed income( can be a con also)

Reservation in pg seats after 4 years

Many more based on individual

Cons.- familial instability as you would get married and other partner is working

Very less chance to progress and do something different…

Mundane lifestyle after few years only if you are not in army lifestyle and have joined just for money…

.In short don’t think for short term money or what outside people see (like uniform, canteen and all add ons) bcz that’s just part of it.you need to imagine the bigger picture of what actual work you are going to do…where do you see yourself in 5 years…and whether the life you are going to have after 5 years would be compitable with your job profile

It is really difficult choice to make.

One may have dreamt to serve the nation by joining defence.

It appear very lucrative but isn’t.

There are perks uniform, financial and others including csd discounts.

But it is SSC one may or may not get to serve more than that depends if one get commissioned after 5 years of services.

If not commissioned into regular services then one has return back to the civilian life

Older with more responsibilities, less of energy, regrets and sometimes broken relationships and marriages.

Things aren’t that rosy as they may appear, speak to someone already serving and someone who couldn’t make it to regular/permanent commissionde.

I have very high regards for defence personnel and the one ones opting for it as well at SSC or any level but be well informed before taking this decision
