Sideroblastic anemia…a D/D for Microcytic Hypochromic Anemia

Lead inhibits ALA synthetase, rate limiting/1st enzyme reqd in the synthesis of heme… So hemoglobin is not adequately produced…And Hb is a natural inhibitor of cell division in erythropoiesis… So erytroblasts starts dividing leading to smaller RBC size… Hence in lead poisoning, microcytic hypochromic anemia develops (due to smaller RBC size and inadequate Hbization)… MCV, MCH and MCHC values are all reduced…
