Like most of u guys, I too eagerly awaiting this year's PG counselling

Long post alert…

Like most of u guys, I too eagerly awaiting this year’s PG counselling. First of all, the topic I’m gonna focus in this post is about PSM…a subject which carries a lot of cons than pros in the minds of most of us. Definitely this post is not to classify whether PSM is good or bad, but it’s my personal view about this branch after going through many online articles, YouTube videos, senior guidance. This post may impact someone positively or may impact negatively but what I present here the things I heard of seen of thought of off this dept.

Question 1: IS IT WISE TO CHOOSE PSM??

If u weren’t sure of what to do with this dept in future… definitely don’t choose it ( This valids for each and every branch)

This subject particularly has no clear-cut subject definition itself to make a lay man to understand what do we do…I think this is the biggest con this subject carries…many of us are afraid that after pursuing MD in PSM there may be identity crisis which is completely not at all true bcz identity can be created in lot many ways ( I come to this in due course). So I may conclude that wiseness is not in choosing branch…but in the way how to use it.

Question 2 : MONEY ??

Yes…knowingly or unknowingly each and every one of us is behind this only. Monetary benefit still proves to be the biggest needle mover than passion in this field ( Expections are always there ). If u wanna earn a lot a lot…then definitely it’s not a branch to choose. But for someone like me who being a middle class, first generation doctor, I had gone through a lot of struggles in the past, a decent salary in our field is more than enough to lead a peaceful life, I can definitely settle with what I can earn.

So I may conclude that if u r a person who needs to earn a lot or from a very well settles background, I afraid u may be not suited to take this branch.

Question 3 : CAN WE PRACTICE???

This is the single most question which arises thinking of this branch. Answer is it depends on u. Being a MBBS graduate, there’s no one to oppose us to not practice, but the thing is are we equipped enough? As far as I heard some institutes doesn’t post us at all in clinical branches…but some institutes does even post us in night duties too…so how much clinical knowledge we gain during our residency is completely depends on the institute we choose. But the actual thing is if our sole motive is to practice only, then taking up PSM may even backfire us. Grass is greener on the other side too…not all the ones who take clinicals are successfully practicing in the reality…as in the previous posts I saw…WHO is recruiting a lot of clinicians than PSM peoples. The reason for this I believe is the competitiveness of those clinical branches and PSM people’s unwillingness to do field work.

Also I would suggest if at all we wanna do private practice, we should do in tier 2/3 cities, as tier 1/ metro are super saturated with super specialisation doctors, even many of them moving towards tier2/3 cities and rural areas…but the ground reality is that to practice medicine in a tier 2/3 cities and rural areas MD isn’t needed at all ( the bitter truth…bcz I hav been running my own clinic and I’m successful too).

To run a private clinic in rural areas, u need commitment, patience and skills of a MBBS graduate, bcz everyone either md or ms or DM or mch, we hav to tackle quacks.

So I may conclude if u r a person who’s looking to do private practice in rural areas in future, u may happily take this branch, if u r gonna settle in urban in view of practice, it needs a lot of hardwork from u if u still gonna choose this branch.

WHO TO CHOOSE PSM???

  1. A person who doesn’t want to run behind money.

  2. A person who really cares more about himself / herself and him / her family than this selfish society ( bit harsh but true).

  3. A person who’s obsessed with travel and ground work.

What I pointed out is only a few and there’s many more…

I purposely avoided writing about job prospects bcz everyone would have searched about those already.

I finally conclude that after all these researches about PSM , Im going to take PSM this year, I’m gonna live with it forever and ready to face appreciations in the future if I succeed and I’m also ready to face criticism if I fail in doing so… ITZ MY DECISION…MY WORKED OUT DECISION.

ITS ABOUT TIME FOR U GUYS TO DECIDE…

THANK U SO MUCH FOR SITTING THROUGH THIS LONG POST.

ALL THE VERY BEST

Why every 2nd day we’re going through psm post?
