My mother has undergone surgery on 4th Jan for her stage 3

My mother has undergone surgery on 4th Jan for her stage 3 Squamous cell esophageal cancer by getting:- robotic esophagectomy with gastric pull up neck anastomosis (along with gallbladder removal due to incidental finding of gallstone on scans).

Currently getting 300ml oral fluid with 1.5 litres fluid from feeding jejunostomy. 7 days have passed since surgery.

She is having bilious vomiting 4-5 times a day(pic attached).

Surgeon is saying bilious vomiting is normal for few days. Can you please guide we are very scared.

Hi Pranav. Very sorry to hear about your mother’s diagnosis. After a gastric pull up, bilious vomiting can be seen for a few days.

  1. Avoid over feeding as it can trigger this.

  2. Make sure she is being given prokinetic agents

  3. Nurse in slight head up position

Let Dr Rajamahendran also comment on this. He does many more of such procedures.
