in TNM satgging according to 7th AJCCof esophageal cancer , T3 is ivasion in adventitia but sir, in esophagus there is no adventitia ?
The adventitia/serosa is the outer covering of oesophagus. Serosa is present in intra-abdominal part ofoesophagus only, while elsewhere the perioesophagealadventitia covers it. Thank you.
Adventitia is a connective tissue layer covering organs which are retroperitoneal.
As serosa is actually the visceral periotenum for intraperitoneal organs, organs like oesophagus and rectum which are retroperitoneal are covered by adventitia as a supporting layer in the absence of peritoneum
So in oesophageal cancer, the T3 refers to adventitial spread
