Hi to all of you!
Thanks for the greetings and best wishes from what I received in the last post…
After that post I have received so many inbox messages regarding guidance about first exam of ‘’Plab Journey’’ which is ‘’IELTS’’
There are lots of questions because Ielts is appearing to be even more difficult exam than Plabs, why so many doctors are failing this exam and what is the biggest reason behind this dilemma???
There are soo many factors behind that and I will highlight what I have experienced aftter talking to like hundred of students and fellows,
First of all, we don’t know why we have to give Ielts or any English exam, this exam is just not to prove our English to appear in Plab 1, It’s soo important, I mean you are going to come to Uk and without knowing proper English you can’t do anything here, English is something more than “ just go to hell”, “ My life my rules” and the slangs like that, I have seen so many international doctors that they couldn’t progress in wards and find courage to engage their senior in conversation because they have never worked on their English skills, many doctors find it really difficult to understand what a native patient say to them and how to deal with them, so just learn that it’s equally necessary as your Plab exams!
Another reason is that almost all International students mostly in Pakistan, India and Bangladesh have their medical education in English so they think that they are really good at English which is not true,
Although they know English to score 6 bands in English but not that enough English to score 7 or above especially in writing…
So they need to work a bit extra, just extra learning can make wonders!!!
Secondly, students don’t respect Ielts like an exam and they always book Ielts not upon their being ready and preparation but solely according to the next date of Plab 1…
That’s why they do hurry and that’s the biggest reason of their failing this exam again and again,It doesn’t matter how many times you book Ielts, without proper knowledge of English you just can’t pass this exam in first go,trust me you just can’t!
So make a sound plan for that,
Thirdly, we doctors want to pass Ielts or English exam just like Plabs…
In medical exam, we have to memorise things but in English exam we need to develop a way to express our message or convey our words in a sound manner which can’t be done by memorising,
I have seen many individuals cramming Band 9 vocabulary and thinking they could ace the exam and failed!
At fourth, as more and more in prepared students are failing this exam near 6.5 or 6 so it leave a terrible message for others who are going to appear in it… with an idea of ‘’impossible’’ you can never pass an exam because then you are just following your worries not your enthusiasm in your heart,
Trust me my fellows, IELTS is just an exam…
Just an exam… I have failed it quite a few times… I have felt like sooo bad just like many other students out there but trust me every time it was my fault, I was just forcing things to appear in Plab 1 and was not learning from my mistakes which I was doing in my failed attempts,
We have to understand one thing that now we are not in any college or school or university,. We need to develop a habit of learning things and that’s how could we follow a successful career!
Don’t do hurry
Don’t be part of any race because it will never end,
The race of appearing in exams quickly as possible will never end, trust me it will never end,
You don’t have to compete with anyone but with yourself, just yourself,.improve yourself, work on yourself,be creative, live a magical life, don’t become part of any race,
Just compete with yourself, you should be a better person today than what you were yesterday and you should follow an upgoing graph!!!
Regards!!!
