PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL YOUR IELTS/OET exams.

I am getting a lot of messages about this. So I think I need to address this.

A lot of doctors are confused about this as they will get their IELTS/OET results after 12 January. There is a fear of not being able to book PLAB 1 for all of 2021.

But here is my take on this:

  1. There is a chance that PLAB 1 might be available in your city.

  2. You have the option of traveling to another place to take PLAB 1.

  3. GMC might announce more PLAB 1 seats.

  4. People cancel their PLAB 1 seats all the time. So you can check the GMC website daily to see if there’s been any vacancies.

  5. If none of the above options work, still, I am sure you will find a PLAB 1 date at some point in the next two years. So, please do not cancel your IELTS/OET.

In fact, I feel it’s best to get your exams out of the way as soon as possible. Study hard. Give it your best!

If you feel you have a lot of time, utilise it wisely. Consider passing a Royal College exam in the meanwhile. Add other things to your CV. Learn! Grow! Explore! Be the best version of yourself!

Edit: Royal College exams include MRCP, MRCS, MRCPCH, MRCPsych, MRCOG. Each specialty has its own exam.
