The indications for treatment of SAA:
- SAA > 2 cm.
- Enlarging = rapidly increasing.
- Symptomatic.
- Child-bearing age.
- Cirrhosis.
- Surgical intervention is indicated in 2, 3, 4, 5 regardless of SAA size.
- Treatment options:
- Endovascular or catheter technique: minimally invasive but with optimal outcomes.
- Stenting: the stent excludes blood flow to the aneurysm and channels it through the stent.
- Traditional surgery: [open or laparoscopic]:
- To close off the artery with a clip or ligature.
- Splenectomy may be necessary especially if the aneurysm lies very close to the spleen.
