in other general surgeries the size of instruments are not too large?
We have to reach the posterior part ie the oropharynx ……so longer instruments will reach there . Also the access to the oropharynx is through the mouth which is a narrow opening , and we have to be able to use different instruments for operating and be able to see the area that we are operating at the same time. Which means the ends should be slender and the end to be held by the surgeon should be away from the field so that the hand of surgeon does not obstruct the view of the area being operated upon.
