This post is not for the toppers. This post is for the average bunch who don’t believe in themselves.

Hi! I am Aditi Guin. I graduated MBBS from NRSMCH, Kolkata in 2020. My preparatory phase was nothing short of a roller coaster ride.

My NEET PG 2020 rank - 113342

My AIIMS June 2020 rank - 17k

My INICET Nov 2020 rank - 9864

My INICET July 2021 rank- 18642

My NEET PG 2021 score - 621 / 800 ( Predicted rank - Around 1400)

I started my preparation in March 2020. I was absolutely listless about how to prepare. Nevertheless, I started off with my preparation. Although I felt like giving up a lot of times, I didn’t succumb to my feelings. I kept on studying and my preparation gained pace by August 2020. My scores in GTs were improving as well. And I was pretty happy with my results in INICET Nov 2020.

But, then the first postponement happened. It was not much of a setback for me given the fact that I was not that well prepared. It was rather a blessing for me. I kept on preparing. And then the first shocker happened. My father turned out to be Covid Positive on the 1st of April just 17 days prior to the exam. It was a major blow to my mindset. I couldn’t keep up the pace and I was actually thankful that the second postponement happened.

Due to the uncertainty, I could’nt keep up that pace and after the postponement my performance deteriorated. I couldn’t bring myself to study. However, I was getting pretty decent ranks in the Marrow Mini Tests. I fooled myself into believing that my preparation is upto the mark and simply lost the pace. A big mistake was not to give GTs. The second major shocker was my INICET July 2021 results. I still can’t believe that I got an 18k+ rank.

I was really unsure whether I would be able to crack the exam this year. I just didn’t want to give up and gave my best shot in the last one and a half months. I did everything that was possible in that short span of time. I gave GTs, read my notes smartly, made everything concise and made sure that I left no stone unturned. The last phase of my preparation contributed the most to my achievement.

Now that the results are out I still can’t believe that I have got such a great rank. If I can, then probably anyone can. This exam is more of a mental battle. If you have the correct mindset and can study smartly, you would be able to crack the exam.

Marrow was my main source all throughout this phase. The modules and the explanations are the BEST. The GTs enable you to chalk out all the important topics. You can trust Marrow completely. I used the notes of two other institutes as well. There’s just one rule - the more concise the better. If you think that the notes are not concise, make them. Make charts for the important topics. This helps a lot with the revision. If you can’t remember topics that you’ve revised many times, write them down on paper and stick them on the walls around you. Dedicate the first hour of the day in revising them. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Do’s and Don’ts-

  1. Lose all toxicity. There is absolutely no time to waste on toxic friends / partners.

  2. Give yourself the first preference.

  3. Try to put in some workout in your daily routine. This helped me a lot to fight my mental battles.

  4. Start giving GTs from yesterday. Make sure you review each one of them. All the 200 questions matter. This will boost your preparation like anything.

  5. Make every study material concise. Your goal while preparing should be to make the last month smoother. In the last month, your goal should be to make the last week smoother.

  6. Keep on revising. There’s a myth that we need to revise at least 3 times to get a good rank. It totally depends on you. If your first read was good enough, you can manage with even one revision. So don’t give up thinking that you don’t have enough time to revise.

  7. Continue studying and pushing till the last day. Persistence is the key.

  8. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. NO ONE WILL BELIEVE IN YOU. YOU HAVE TO FIGHT YOUR OWN BATTLES. FACE THE STORM AND YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO ACHIEVE YOUR DREAM BRANCH IN YOUR DREAM COLLEGE. TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS AND KEEP ON STUDYING.

Lastly, I would like to thank my friends and seniors who helped me out in this phase. This was the toughest battle I have fought till date.
