Topical steroid withdrawal is terrible! Even small amounts of topical steroids for short time will lead to TSW. Pharma companies charge $500 for a small tube of steroid which will work only temporarily but NO dr will tell this as they get kick backs from Pharma companies.
Especially if they can just bill insurance companies who will happily pay them without question and with no care to whether the treatment is causing any long term side effects to the patient.
My dr just prescribed 2 strong steroids (protopic $500) and Dupixent! I said Im not going on Dupixent but meanwhile dr got a 100% approval coverage from the insurance so the dr keeps pushing and calling.
Im going 3 weeks through withdrawal my skin is almost good only the itch is terrible all over body. Benadryl did not help Motrin seems better but I only take it when I cant get 3+ hr sleep
Yeah TSW can be a pain. I’ve found the longer a client has been using the steroid, the more resilient the eczema becomes and the more dependant the skin is on the steroids. Additionally, longer usage means that the doctors have often been increasing dosages as time went by and the eczema got more resilient to the steroids. A lot of people with start of 0.01% hydrocortisones and then it will get gradually increased up to 0.1% and beyond. So it can be tough if you’ve been using the steroids for a long time as your body is dependant on them for relief and also moisture.
I used 0.5lb Triamcinolone 0.1 ointment over 10 years as little as I could not knowing how strong it was. I should have rather used zinc cream which heals eczema so good. Why the heck do they make 1lb tubes of steroid ointments?
