Unique procedures done only by internal medicine dr

Multisystem approach for diagnosis. Mostly only done by internist.

For procedures, there’s no single medical procedure exclusive to Internal Medicine. But i guess my first point is enough.

With just a unilateral jaw pain, patient visits dentist, referred to ent expecting tmj problem, referred to orthopedician, no diagnosis.

Went to a physician, diagnosed with angina. Rare presentation. An internist can co relate a simple jaw pain with heart😅. And that’s what he does. A dentist, ent specialist and orthopedician mostly miss these, although they specialize in some or the other thing.

So multisystem approach for diagnosis is mostly exclusive to an internist.

An internal medicine person with no organ specific speciality is infact his speciality. No one can think as widely as an internist thinks.

Tanq…wat are the procedures done by md general medicine generally lik pleural tapping ?

depends on the training and interest of doctor himself to perform. But there may be many small procedures which he can perform. Be it central line insertion, all the fluid tapping, intubation, lumbar puncture, echocardiography(if trained), other small procedures we learn at mbbs levels like foleys, ryles etc. Other than that really depends on training. But if you want procedures, don’t take medicine.

Major work of a surgeon is treatment, diagnosis is generally not difficult. And major work of a physician is diagnosis, treatment is generally not difficult.

Otherwise procedures really depend on your training.
