What do you guys use or do for crunchy knees? Mine sound like I’m stepping on sand! I can’t stand it anymore.

If it’s not painful don’t worry about it. I’m 6 years post op and have numbness and crunching. I also have done a half Ironman and am painfree.

it’s painful when I go up stairs or inclines. Which sucks because I have a two story and live on a hill so I’m screwed.

That’s a different story. Painful cracking requires attention. Noisy cracking is what I have. Sorry to hear about that.

I take glucosamine and collagen everyday. It hasn’t completely gone away, but much much better. Surgeon said if it doesn’t cause pain, it’s fine. I’m 2+ years post op

I find exercise - like the bike, cross trainer and stair stepper in conjunction with low weights and ALOT of pre and especially post exercise STRETCHING HELPS DRAMATICALLY. I find especially sitting on my feet in a kneeling position and now I’ve started sitting with my knees in front touching but heels on either side of my butt. At first these really hurt, so doing then after a warm up is better, but they loosen the muscles around my knee which makes my knee able to track properly and therefore cracking and crackling deminish massively. I also get less swelling after a big walk with my dog because I’m not walking with the cracking/ miss alignment. My biggest advice that I wish someone had told me after my initial ACL repair is to PUSH through some pain! The crosstrainer hurt like hell the first couple times I did it, but my sweeling actually went down after, I pushed through and now I’m doing 20 min on the stair stepper and I’m finally starting to be able to walk down stairs normally!
