What is the concept behind the associated conditions of frozen shoulder?
The etiopathogenesis of frozen shoulder or adhesive capsulitis has not been entirely delineated. It likely occurs due to cytokine-mediated synovial inflammation with fibroblastic proliferation, leading to adhesions around the rotator interval caused by increased collagen and nodular band formation. Thus, conditions that lead to either local inflammation and repair (such as shoulder injury) or systemic inflammation or fibrosis contributing to adhesion formation (such as DM, thyroid disorders, Dupuytren’s, cancer, CRPS) can lead to frozen shoulder.
Thank you.
