Why do anabolic steroids cause azoospermia and testicular atrophy?
Anabolic steroids causes suppression of hypothalamus-pituitary-testicular axis ( HPT) which stops generation of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH). Without GnRH , pituitary gland stops secretion of LH and FSH which in turn leads to suppression of testosterone accompanied by testicular atrophy and azoospermia.
thanks a lot
Nd why in Klinefelter syndrome, even after having high FSH,LH, There is testicular atrophy
Just confused by these two
it’s a chromosomal condition which prevent testis to function normally and so reduce testosterone levels which leads to atrophy. Low testosterone levels causes increase in FSH and LH levels which causes hyalinization and fibrosis in testis which also results in shrinking (atrophy) of testis.
Bcs of suppression of LH and FSH.
thanks a lot sir
