Why does Necrotising Enterocolitis cause Metabolic Acidosis?

Due to long term hypoperfusion.

Due to undigested carbohydrate in git

Necrotizing enterocolitis is characterized by an immature intestinal barrier with a limited ability to secrete enzymes as well as decreased intestinal motility. The fermentation of undigested dietary carbohydrates by colonic flora yields CO2 and hydrogen gas as well as short chain organic acids. These organic acids can disrupt the intestinal mucosa and initiate inflammation, driven predominantly by resident mast cells and by granulocytes which are recruited from blood. The organic acids produced lead to systemic acidosis. Thank you.
